JD Cymru Premier champions TNS have donated a portion of the gate receipts to Llangollen Town Football Club following the clubs’ recent meeting in the JD Welsh Cup at Park Hall last month.

The Saints faced off against the third-tier side in what was a historic clash for both sides in the country’s most historic cup competition.

TNS showed respect to their opponents by fielding a strong line-up, many of whom have featured in the club’s historic UEFA Conference League campaign.

TNS have shown their support for all clubs in the Welsh football system by donating £1,000 from the gate receipts directly to Llangollen Town.

The decision to donate the money reflects the Oswestry club's dedication to growing the Welsh game at all levels of the pyramid, while also fostering positive relationships with fellow clubs.

The New Saints chairman Mike Harris said: “The New Saints pride ourselves at supporting the growth and development of all clubs in Welsh football, as well as the domestic game as a whole. We were honoured to welcome the players, staff and supporters of Llangollen Town FC to Park Hall for what was a memorable cup tie.

“As we continue to fly the flag for Wales on the European stage, this donation reaffirms our belief that football is at the heart of communities across Wales. We are proud to make this donation to the board of Llangollen Town, wish them well for the rest of the season and hope this is the start of a proactive relationship between the two clubs.”

Llangollen Town manager Luke Maybury expressed thanks on behalf of the Ardal North East League side.

He said: “On behalf of everyone at Llangollen Town FC, we would like to place our thank you on record to The New Saints. Not just for the very generous donation following our JD Welsh Cup tie, but also for their hospitality on the night of the game. In what was a historic game for us, TNS showed great respect by fielding an extremely strong side on the night.

“Although the donation may not seem much to many clubs, for us, a volunteer run community club, it means a whole lot more. We are a club in which all players and management effectively pay to play and donations of any amount are always gratefully received.

"A big thank you also must go to Craig Harrison and his staff, as he made me and the guys feel very welcome and offered his help with any requests we had.

“A huge mention has to go to our travelling supporters. Around 300 of our supporters from ‘The Town’ visited Park Hall for the game and although we didn’t get the result we hoped for, it’s certainly a night that myself, the coaches and the players won’t forget.

"We wish all the best to TNS in both domestic and European competitions as they represent our home country of Wales. We also hope that this is the beginning of a solid relationship between the two clubs.”
