MIKE Harris has shared his delight after TNS arrived on the European football map in Florence on Thursday night.

A 2-0 defeat at the hands of Fiorentina failed to dampen spirits in the Oswestry club's camp with the JD Cymru Premier champions receiving glowing plaudits from across the world in the aftermath.

Saints' chairman Harris echoed the sentiments of head coach Craig Harrison who felt his side were unlucky to concede two goals against the Italian giants.

"Given how well we played we are slightly disappointed to have conceded," said Harris. "However the performance has given us a lot of confidence going forward in this competition."

Harris has been patient in realising his dream of the Saints reaching a UEFA competition group stage with the work beginning two decades ago when he took over the then Llansantffraid-based club.

"Everyone at the club has been working hard and pushing toward this for decades and we are delighted to represent Wales in this competition and show the qualities of Welsh football to all."

Harris insisted the Saints would not be making up the numbers in the competition and was confident the club would continue to make a name for itself and Welsh football.

"We want to win every game and it is important now we build on this performance going forward," said Harris. "For now we will enjoy this and it is fantastic so many people are talking about TNS and Welsh football."

The Saints return to action on Sunday with a trip to Briton Ferry Llansawel in the JD Cymru Premier.
