OSWESTRY endured to an afternoon to forget in Walsall with the border side crashing to an emphatic 83-5 defeat at the hands of Vesyans in division two of the West Midlands League.
Oswestry were shorn of a host of players through injury and unavoidable absences and made the trip with the bare 15 players.
The home side were ruthless and ran home 13 tries as Oswestry suffered their heaviest defeat of the campaign.
The Walsall side raced into a two converted try lead following a bright start in front of a large home crowd.

Oswestry made their task all the harder by conceding a host of needless penalties but fought on and were rewarded when good kicking from Ivor Hughes led to No8 Dan Smart forcing himself through the defence to score a try.

The hosts soon replied with a third converted try and were breached again soon after with a fourth.
More errors and missed tackles allowed the hosts to drive the advantage and score a further two tries to settle the outcome at 40-5 at the break.
Oswestry did not give up and continued to battle but they finally buckled and allowed the home team to score their seventh try early in the second-half.

Tiredness crept in and the remaining 25 minutes saw the locals score another six tries to complete a miserable weekend for Jordan Davies’ side who slipped to sixth in the table.
Oswestry return to home soil when Handsworth are the visitors on Saturday with the Eagles bidding to revive their campaign.

Oswestry IIs fell just short in a 40-34 defeat at home to Winnington Park in division four of the NOWIRL League.
Alister Price crossed for two tries while Paul Rimmer, Gareth Marriot, Will Jones and Harri Jones also crossed while Jones and Craig Richardson-Howell added conversions.
