Oswestry runners won two team awards and two county selections at the recent Shropshire Cross Country Championships held at Attingham Park.
Top six finishes earned Erin Woolcock and Tom Johnson places in the Shropshire team to compete in the Inter Counties fixture at Loughborough in March while the under 13 and under 17 boys both secured bronze medals in the team events.
First to brave the cold and wet were under 13 girls Erin Woolcock and Beth Johnson who both completed the 2km course in well under 10 minutes.
The under 13 boys saw all five Oswestry Olympians finishing in the top 20 with Tom Johnson fifth while Jack Hughes, Harry Tidridge, Will Jones and Charlie Lister all contributed to the team’s bronze medal finish.
Rebecca Tinsley-Edwards and Kate Hotchkiss showed great determination over the 3km under 15 girls’ race to finish within two places of each other.
Oswestry’s largest contingent was in the under 15 boys’ race with a six strong team finishing fourth.
Competing for the Olympians were Ollie Coburn, Elliot O’Connor, Archie Calloway, Josh Martin, Robert Liddiatt and Riley Woolcock.
The final and most challenging race of the day saw the under 17 boys Ben Rothera, Cato Pugsley and Tom Hotchkiss secure a team bronze after all successfully completed the 5km course in under 23 minutes.
Many Oswestry Olympian Juniors will be in cross country action again on Saturday, February 5 when the Shropshire Schools’ Cross Country Championships are held at Oswestry School.
