SEVERAL border football clubs have signalled their ambitions by applying for promotion.

Llansantffraid and Llanrhaeadr have each applied to make the step up from the Ardal North East League to JD Cymru North.

Meanwhile MMP Central Wales League North side Four Crosses have tabled an application to join the Ardal North East League.

The applications were revealed as part of the Football Association promotion applicants with the deadline for applying for a license passed on New Year.

Llanrhaeadr are no strangers to the second tier having previously competed in JD Cymru North.

A club spokesman said: "We as a club are always looking to improve ourselves.

OTHER NEWS:

"We want to test ourselves with regard to the requirements and see what we need to do.

"It was only two years ago that we attained the tier two license last. We are realistic in terms of getting promotion this season but we are seeing this as a stepping stone to future progress."

Llansantffraid have never competed in the second tier having only made the step up to the third tier this season.

However the club's Treflan ground is an anomaly in Welsh football as part of the legacy the former Llansantffraid club which became TNS and departed the village to develop its own facilities at Park Hall in 2003.

As such Treflan is among the best stadiums outside the top flight and superior to some and would likely surpass ground criteria for the second tier.

Bow Street, Cefn Albion, Llanuwchllyn, Penrhyncoch and Radnor Valley have also applied for promotion from the Central Wales League.

Meanwhile Four Crosses have targeted a return to the Ardal North East League having previously competed in the regional third tier before dropping down to rebuild in the Central Wales League two years ago.

A club spokesman said: "Four Crosses Football Club had a ground criteria inspection for progression to tier three and the inspection all went as expected with all the hard work that’s been done.

"The management and committee feel we are in a good position to progress with the current squad and look forward to the remaining games to establish our final position within the current league.

Kerry, Machynlleth and Rhayader Town have also applied for promotion to the Ardal leagues from the Central Wales leagues.
