WORK is underway at Holyhead Road as Chirk AAA Football Club bid to open its new stand by the end of the year.
The club is enjoying a stellar year after their Ardal North East League title success and promotion to JD Cymru North was followed by a successful grant application to allow ground improvements to go ahead.
It is hoped the works and increased seating capacity will help the club consolidate in the second tier while also making Holyhead Road a venue for football fans throughout the year.
A spokesman said: "The new 160 seater grandstand is on schedule to be completed by year end. Initial groundwork is complete with hardcore now down.
"A settling period is now required and then groundwork will be completed and fabrication work will commence. Work is well within the anticipated time line.
"Thanks to Richard 'Titch' Roberts and his team and also project manager Mark Holmes for their efforts."
The club is back in action on Friday night when the Colliers make the trip to Penrhyncoch before welcoming Porthmadog to Holyhead Road on Monday.
