Firefighters have revealed that a car fire in Oswestry managed to bring out the festive side of some passers by as the fire was being extinguished.

A car fire in Oswestry, on the A5 close to Queen's Head, that broke out at 3.40pm on Tuesday, November 26, inspired a few festive jingles because of the unique way it was put out.

Firefighters from both Oswestry and Ellesmere were dispatched to the scene and, unable to put the fire out with water, used foam to smother the fire.

The incident left one lane of the A5 closed, due to hazards including smoke across the carriageway, but cars were still able to pass in the other lane.

“On arrival, crews found a car alight, which proved difficult to extinguish using water.

“A decision was made to use the foam carried in our onboard appliance tanks to smother the fire.

“Foam assists in extinguishing difficult fires by creating a barrier to oxygen and clings to the vehicle, enhancing the cooling effect.
