A flood warning has been issued for areas around Oswestry after Storm Bert.

Flood waters are on the raise with a flood warning issued for the River Vyrnwy in Shropshire after heavy rain today (November 23).

Heavy raining and fast melting snow has caused issues across the region with flash flooding seen in Gobowen and Chirk.

However, a flood warning has also been issued on the River Vyrnwy, with an alert issued for the Severn Vyrnwy confluence.

According to the Environment Agency further bad weather is expected until the beginning of next week.

In their latest update the Environment Agency warned “River levels are rising at the Llanymynech river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

“Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected to occur overnight tonight, 23/11/24.

“We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in and around Maesbrook. Predicted peaks:- Llanymynech 4.0m to 4.5m overnight, 23/11/24.

“Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to remain high until Tuesday, 26/11/24.

“We are closely monitoring the situation.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
