CHRISTMAS tree collections in Shropshire will now only be for residents subscribing to the council’s green waste service, according to a reminder.
Anyone wanting their real trees collected at the end of the festive period will need to be officially signed upto the council’s service, which was introduced much to residents’ dismay.
The new opt-in garden waste service began on Monday, November 4 and householders must pay £56 per bin, per year if they want their garden waste bin to be collected.

Ian Nellins, Shropshire Council’s deputy leader and Cabinet member with responsibility for waste management, said the collection will be added to the service.
“This Christmas our waste collection crews will once again be collecting real Christmas trees and taking them away to be recycled,” he said.
“However, this year people must have subscribed to the garden waste service if they want their tree to be taken away.
“So, if you’re planning to buy a real tree, please remember to sign up for the service.
“I’m really pleased with the number of people that have subscribed so far and I want to thank everyone that has signed up.
