A major hotel chain can add more bedrooms to its Oswestry site after planners gave it the go ahead.

Premier Inn Hotels submitted a proposal to convert the former Oswald’s Cross pub and restaurant into a new block of rooms. The former Table Table business, near to the Mile End services, closed to the general public in July.

The conversion will see 11 new bedrooms, with one of the rooms being removed to accommodate an enlarged laundry room.

The restaurant will also be reduced, proving 72 covers for guests, while the parking provision would be retained. The existing landscape features and habitat areas will also not be impacted.

“The proposed development will provide additional hotel bedrooms contributing to the economic growth of the area and improving the hotel capacity.

"The proposed conversion is relatively minor in nature, reflecting the character of the wider area representing a sustainable form of development and retaining an element of restaurant use on the site for use by the hotel guests reducing the need for additional trips into the wider area.

“The conversion has been carefully designed to make more efficient use of the existing site and  uses materials to achieve a good quality design by matching the materials used in the existing building.

“The proposal would not increase the risk of flooding to the hotel or any other buildings within the area. The existing surface water drainage system is sufficient to accommodate the proposed development.

“An appropriate amount of car parking would be provided for the hotel with the proposal resulting in an overall decrease in the need for parking on the site due to the reduction in size of the restaurant.”
