THE great and good of Oswestry joined with veterans and members of the Armed Forces to commemorate those who gave their lives in the World Wars on Sunday.
Oswestry mayor Councillor Mike Isherwood was joined by his family, town and Shropshire Council colleagues and North Shropshire MP, among others, for the official commemorations at the Memorial Gates of Cae Glas Park.
Cadets from both the army and the Royal Air Force’s 1165 Sqn Oswestry, as well as members of community groups across the town such as Scouts, Brownies, Rainbows and more, joined the annual parade from the gates, up Church Street and towards the Bailey Head.
There, Cllr Isherwood spoke to the crowd that had gathered and was supported by Veronica Lillis, Deputy Lieutenant of Shropshire, who was there to represent Lady Anna Turner.
The parade was led by the Porthywaen Silver Band, as is tradition in Oswestry.
Members of the parade were celebrated by people in the town for the way it has represented Oswestry while social media posts praised the public turnout of support for those who have given their lives for their country.
Mrs Morgan, at her third service as the area’s MP since her election 2021, added: “It was an honour to join the Remembrance parade and service, and to lay a wreath in Oswestry on Sunday.”
Spokesman for the air cadets, CI Rob Evans, added: “It’s been a great privilege for the staff and cadets of 1165sqn Air Cadets to be part of Oswestry’s Remembrance Sunday.
“It’s a time honoured tradition of respect and salute to those names recorded upon the town’s War Memorial of Cae Glas park gates.
“They are remembered along with those that have served since the First World War have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, in turn it’s to the families and friends that have also lost.
“The smartness and presentation given by each member shows they are a credit to the uniform.”
