ONE of Oswestry’s most famous landmarks, The Cross fountain, is back in its rightful place and restored to former glory, pictures have confirmed.
The stone fountain has been restored to The Cross, between Cross Street and Bailey Street, after it was knocked down by a van in an incident that left a man seriously injured and needing urgent treatment in 2023.
Last month, Oswestry Town Council confirmed all the paperwork with the insurance company acting on behalf of the driver had been settled and that work could begin.

A spokesman also said that some delays were down to ensuring the landmark was restored to its original design.
Freelance photographer Graham Mitchell has snapped the returning fountain which is a mixture sandy-coloured stone, with a grey speckled cross atop the fountain.
Workers from contractors CBS Ltd are continuing to install the fountain ahead of an official opening, to be confirmed.
CBS Ltd also carried out restoration work on the monument in 2006.
