Owners of an award-winning hotel near Chirk have hit back at the “fake news” that it will be taking prisoners on license as guests.

The owners of the Glyn Valley Hotel in Glyn Ceiriog said online rumours that ex-prisoners who are out on license were entirely false.

Owner David Bright said that the rumour that has been spread across social media was an “absolute load of rubbish” and “fake news”.

The hotel is currently closed due to a broken boiler but is expected to be back open this week.

OTHER NEWS:

Mr Bright said that he and his company had invested nearly £250,000 in the hotel and had “never considered” using it for any other purpose than a regular hotel – for which they have received trip advisor awards for the last three years.

He added that he “loved the hotel and it would not be changing”.

Mr Bright said that he had another hotel in Darlington which has been used by the local authority for homeless people – something he has said he “very proud of” as it had housed thousands of people over the last few years.

A statement from the Glyn Valley Hotel added: "The Glyn Valley Hotel is currently closed for accommodation as the boiler has failed, and no hot water and no heating makes for a miserable stay at any hotel.

“We are re-opening on Thursday this week purely for food and beverage – bar will be open from 4pm, with food served from 5pm through to 8.30pm and the bar closing at 10pm

“We hope that this small measure that we are able to take under the prevailing circumstances will help both the staff, and the locals clamouring for a place to congregate and enjoy a drink or two in front of a cosy log fire, and perhaps even a bite to eat.

“None of us here at the Glyn are sure where this rumour has come from, or how it has started, but rest assured that is not the future for the Glyn Valley.

“I can assure you that we are working hard to return to being a fully operational hotel at the earliest opportunity.

“Both the team here at the Glyn and at Head Office take this sort of harmful gossip seriously.”
