An illuminated tractor run will be returning to Oswestry for the festive season as last year’s event managed to raise over £12,000.
Organisers of Oswestry’s Illuminated Tractor Run will be holding another event on Saturday, December 14, as Mike Lade and the Whittington and Oswestry Young Farmers who put the event together are hoping to build on the momentum from the 2023 run that managed to raise £12,000 for the Lingen Davies Cancer Charity.
The event, called Choc’s Tractor Run, is named after Will Roberts of Pennant Farm in Gobowen. Nicknamed ‘Choc’ after his love of chocolate, Will passed away from a brain tumour in December 2022.
Ed Sands, chairman of Whittington and Oswestry Young Farmers, said: “I would like to start off by saying how excited myself and the club are for Choc’s illuminated tractor run again this December.

“With its success last year, we can only hope for the same again this year. It was so nice to see so many people out on the streets, clearly enjoying watching the illuminated tractors go through the towns and villages. It’s things like this that makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
The event will be held at Oswestry Livestock Market on Shrewsbury Road, with the event open from 3pm to give people the chance to walk around and see the decorated vehicles.
Judging of the Best Illuminated Tractor will be done by Helen Morgan MP, the Lord Lieutenant Anna Turner and the Oswestry Mayor Mike Isherwood before the start when they will wave the convoy off at 5pm.
Mr Sands added: “At the market, people will be able to walk around the tractors and talk to our local farmers before and after the end of the run at the market.
“Also available will be hot drinks, a bar and visitors can enjoy the BBQ to purchase hot food provided again. There will be marshals and easily identifiable Lingen Davies bucket collectors at the Market and in the villages and towns to raise much need money for the local cancer charity, so please have cash available on the evening so you can support the run.”
The illuminated tractors will leave to go through West Felton, Ruyton XI Towns, Baschurch, Burlton, Cockshut, Ellesmere, Duddleston Heath, Ifton Heath, St Martins, Gobowen, Whittington, Oswestry, Morda to return to the Livestock Market at approximately 8pm.
