CHARGING points for electric cars at Oswestry’s McDonald’s restaurant could be on their way after a planning application.

Plans for the two charging points for the Shrewsbury Road store by Instavolt for the car park at the site, on the former Smithfield Market retail development, were submitted to Shropshire Council last week.

The planning statement set out that the new Labour Government’s position was positive towards electric cars and charging points and that with the two points, there will be one fully accessible bay.

An application form, also submitted by Instavolt, stated that the space used for the charging points is currently open to all McDonald’s customers.

The statement added: “Electric vehicle charging infrastructure is low carbon development. 3.2 Electric vehicle ownership is at an early stage in its genesis.

“Ownership rates are increasing as various policy and legislator drivers take effect, chief among them net zero targets and the impending ban on the sale of new fossil fuel cars.

“The sector remains a novel one for the planning system with some local authorities starting their policy journeys with limited EV strategies which are focussed on Council-owned land and Council vehicle fleets.
