A teenage boy was arrested for drug possession following a police chase through Oswestry town centre police.

The arrest was made on Wednesday evening (October 23) at around 9.45pm, with West Mercia Police arresting the 17-year-old suspect on Beatrice Street in Oswestry.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply, after police found cash and cannabis buds.

He has since been released on bail.

The arrest was made after patrol officers in Oswestry identified a vehicle that failed to stop.

The car was later brought to a stop on Beatrice Street and the teen suspect was arrested.

According to a West Mercia Police spokesperson: “A 17 year old boy has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug (cannabis) with intent to supply.

“At around 9.45pm on Wednesday night (October 23) patrol officers in Oswestry identified a vehicle which initially failed to stop.

“The car was brought to a stop on Beatrice Street and the suspect was arrested after cash and cannabis buds were found.

“The suspect has been released on bail while enquiries continue.”

An officer from Oswestry Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) confirmed the arrest on Thursday adding that cash and drugs were also taken at the scene.

The officer said: “A male has been arrested for failing to stop for police and possession with intent to supply following a vehicle pursuit in Oswestry town centre.

“PC George Watling from the Oswestry town centre team and PS Tim Lever followed a vehicle due to the manner of driving and a strong smell of cannabis.

“When officers attempted to stop the vehicle it failed to stop and made off. Officers followed the vehicle onto Beatrice Street where the driver attempted to decamp.

“The driver was blocked in by officers and swiftly arrested. A quantity of cash, controlled drugs were seized from the vehicle."
