An Oswestry author is set to embark on a tour of Shropshire libraries to promote his latest murder mystery.

Dave Andrews's latest book, Bolt From The Black, centres around the death of a property developer, found in the moat at Whittington Castle, with suspicion falling on campaigners opposed to his plans to build luxury homes near an ancient monument.

Mr Andrews said: "I just felt that Whittington Castle provided an ideal setting and atmosphere for a murder mystery.

"And obviously the theme of placing houses near a protected historical site is relevant not only in Oswestry but many other parts of Britain too."

The book is the sequel to Each Slow Dusk, which is based on the discovery of a solicitor's body at the foot of the Wilfred Owen statue in Oswestry.

This is the 13th book by Mr Andrews, who is the reader and writer in residence at Oswestry library.

He said: "I love my role at Oswestry library and I like to promote the town in my books.

"One reviewer wrote recently that my Inspector Probert novels are doing for Oswestry what the Inspector Morse novels did for Oxford.

"This meant a lot to me as I was a student in Oxford and l know the city well.

"I’m relishing the opportunity to introduce Inspector Probert - and Oswestry - to readers in other Shropshire libraries and I’m planning a similar tour over the border in Wales in 2025.

"Meeting new readers - and writers too - is always a thrill."

His tour will include dates at the following Shropshire libraries; Shrewsbury on November 5, Church Stretton on November 8, Bridgnorth on November 16, Gobowen on November 19, Ellesmere on November 23, Oswestry on November 25, Bishop’s Castle on November 27.
