Police officers have asked Ellesmere residents to stop sharing locations of speed vans on social media.
West Mercia Police’s Safer Neighbourhood team in Ellesmere have asked the public to stop sharing the location of speed surveys as it is affecting their enforcement of the area.
Police officers have said that the sharing of the location of the speed traps on social media allows people who would otherwise be speeding to temporarily change their behaviour and allows speeding drivers to avoid detection.

In a statement online, officers for West Mercia Police claimed they had been “working hard to try and address the ongoing concerns around speeding within your area”.
However the statement added: “It makes it extremely difficult to get accurate data and a full understanding of the issues when members of the public advertise over social media, the fact that there are speed surveys and or enforcement happening.
“Giving drivers warnings to adhere to the speed limit so they do not get caught is not helping to solve the ongoing issues and concerns.”
