A children's hospice on the edge of Oswestry was paid a special visit by comedian and actor Jason Manford.

The entertainer and Absolute Radio presenter stopped by Hope House children's hospice in Morda on October 5 to meet some of the children who benefit from their services, including baby George McLeod.

Mr Manford, who was on his way to perform at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury, had previously donated to the hospice's 1,000-mile charity challenge.

The challenge, taken on by George and his parents, Mark and Natalie, involves covering the 1,084-mile distance from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise funds.

Mark, who lives in Shrewsbury, said: "It meant a lot to us that Jason could take the time out of his busy schedule to come and meet George at Hope House.

"What better way to help Jason understand all the amazing work being done at the hospice than to get him there to show him and meet some of the staff and children."

They are also documenting their travels.

Mark added: "Hope House has been an absolute lifeline for us so we want to raise as much money for them as possible to help other families to access the support, respite care, and services that are so important to us.

"The hospice is part of who we are now."

Little George is set to finish the challenge on his first birthday on November 4, when he will cross the finish line at Hope House.
