A group was given the tour of the garden created by a multi award winning gardener for the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital.
A group of National Garden Scheme garden owners from Powys including committee members and volunteers were invited to a walkabout with the head gardener at Horatio’s Garden on Wednesday October 2.
Based at the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries, the garden was designed by Bunny Guinness, six-time RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal Winner.
The garden encompasses “wrap-around views from the ward and a glasshouse and garden therapy area which feature raised beds and planters for patients to grow their own plants”.

There are open social spaces designed for wheelchair users, a serpentine rill, and a wonderful garden room with a central fireplace and plenty of room to enjoy delicious tea and cake.
The visit was a thank you to supporters of the National Garden Scheme, who have been supporting Horatio’s Garden since 2015, donating £255,000 to date to help the charity create and care for its four gardens across the UK.
Patients have praised the garden as “a peaceful, private and quiet space where they can reconnect with nature and enjoy the positivity of being outside in the fresh air after the hustle and bustle of life on the ward”.
