A Tesco shopper has selected Shrewsbury & Oswestry Crucial Crew to receive a £5,000 donation.
The organisation was chosen by a customer at Shrewsbury Extra as part of a lucky dip to find a specially created gold version of Tesco’s blue voting token.
Shrewsbury & Oswestry Crucial Crew was one of three local charities that customers could vote for to receive the £5,000 Golden Grant as part of Tesco’s Stronger Starts scheme.
Since 1994, the charity has been delivering important safety information to children with the help of local professional partners.
They cover topics such as internet safety, first aid, the dangers of alcohol misuse, and other socially relevant subjects to provide children with awareness of the society they live in.
They plan to use the donation to fund their annual event in June 2025, to provide more than 1,500 vulnerable children with important life skills, to get them ready for secondary school.
Geof Proffitt, deputy chairman at Shrewsbury & Oswestry Crucial Crew, said: "It was a real pleasure to share our success with the brilliant Community Champions team at Tesco Extra in Shrewsbury.
- Oswestry man delighted to discover RJAH surgeon still has gift 14 years on
- Land near Oswestry sold as part of £1.1 million sale by Shropshire auctioneers
- This is how much Ellesmere's Black Lion Hotel will cost any new owners
"The grant will benefit every Year Six student at 50 schools in Shropshire."
More than 100 Tesco stores across the country took part in the Golden Grants event, with £500,000 in total being donated to good causes that help children and young people.
Claire De Silva, Tesco head of communities, said: "We know that £5,000 can make a huge difference to a school or community project, so we are incredibly proud to have been able to award Golden Grants to more than 100 schools and local projects to support the vital work they do for our children and communities.
"Our Stronger Starts programme continues to support our local communities year-round, and we encourage all customers to get involved by using a blue token to vote for a local project they feel will benefit people in their community."
