A CALL for donations to help a peer-supported neurodiversity staff at Gobowen’s Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital has prompted a huge response.

Richard Howell, a senior member of staff at the hospital, took to social media to call for mugs, pencils, craft supplies and games for the group.

He immediately received offers from members of the Facebook group Ask Oswestry, which he admitted left him delighted.

“The response to the Facebook post took me back and I want to say a massive thank you to all the people who responded positively,” he said.

OTHER NEWS:

Richard explained that the group, while not open to the general public, will become a crucial outlet for people working at the hospital who are either neurodiverse or want to know more about people who are.

And this, he believes, will help people in the area as more and more people receive diagnosis for neurodiverse conditions such as autism and ADHD, among others.

“The group is made up of staff at the hospital so it’s an internal one that we are running on every third Friday,” he said.

“It’s not open to the public but nor is it organised through by the NHS but is organised through the staff.

“This is why we’re asking people for donations because we don’t have a budget for it.

“It’s going to help people rom the town because they work at the hospital and we want to help them.

“We’re not going to be providing mental health support as such as the group is going to have people who are neurodiverse and looking for support and looking to educate those who are not.

“We want to support people with neurodiversity and help those who don’t.

“We’re seeing more older people being diagnosed as neurodivergent and they’re not knowing what to do, or their kids are being diagnosed and they want to know more.

“It’s giving the chance to talk with each other and bring like-minded people together.
