RESIDENTS around the Severn-Vyrnwy confluence on the Shropshire-Powys border are being warned to expect flooding
With heavy rain across much of the UK from Sunday into Monday, both the Environment Agency (EA) and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) have issued flood alerts.
In its alert, the EA said that flooding around Maesbrook and Melverley will be affected.

It said: “River levels are rising at the Llanymynech river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.
“We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the river from the Welsh border at Llawnt to Shrawardine near Shrewsbury.

“Other locations that may be affected include Llanymynech, Maesbrook and Melverley. Minor roads between Maesbrook, Melverley and Pentre start to flood.
“Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
Meanwhile, NRW has issued its alert for the Vyrnwy catchment area, affecting the river plus the Tanat and Cain and all tributaries.
NRW said: “Flooding of low-lying land and roads is expected.
“River Levels are above normal levels. Roads close to Meifod Bridge, the B4393 near Llansantffraid Bridge and the B4398 at New Bridge Llanymynech could also be affected by the rising levels.
“We will continue to monitor the situation.”
