AN OSWESTRY youngster, coached by April Luong, has been crowned champion of a Miss Teen Universe UK competition, much to the delight of her mother.

Esland-Cyssy Johnson, five years old, was declared the winner at the competition grand finals in Glasgow over the weekend.

She triumphed over top young talents from across the UK, shining in all four rounds of competition that tested her poise, dedication, and passion for making a difference, with her coming out on top points in each round.

Her mum, Care, set out her daughter’s victory and admitted she was delighted with how the competition went.

She said: “Despite the very long days and intense competition, Esland’s determination and heart led her to victory.

“In the interview round, Esland spoke with passion about her platform, Little Voices Big Hearts, which focuses on improving access to education for children, particularly in her community.

“She expressed her strong support for her own school and former preschool, both of which she continues to champion for the vital work they do.

“Esland’s commitment to education is more than just words.

“Over the past three years, she has collected over 1,200 arts and crafts supplies through her pageantry work, which she has donated to the children at her former preschool.

“Her initiative ensures that more children have the opportunity to explore their creativity and enjoy hands-on learning experiences.

"Education is important because it helps kids become anything they want when they grow up.

“She said in her interview that ‘I want everyone to have books and that's why i'm going to build some free libraries in my town’.”

Care said that Esland displayed her athleticism in the glam sports round, where her energy and confidence shone through in her cheerleading routine, choreographed by herself backstage.

Next came the fashion round, where Esland’s style was on full display.

She wore a design created by her mother, who is a fashion designer, who made custom outfits that highlighted her daughters personality and grace.

Esland’s journey to the crown was supported by her coach, April, a former Ms Galaxy International from Oswestry, whose guidance helped shape Esland’s routines and stage presence.

Care added: “Esland has worked so hard and has shown such dedication throughout this competition, with lots of routines to learn, long days and intense competition.

"Her commitment to her platform, Little Voices Big Hearts, and her ongoing support for her school and preschool shows just how much she cares about education and giving back."
