A WORKING group to help Ellesmere Town Council spend section 106 money on projects will be set up in the coming weeks.

Councillor Pete Jones spoke at the latest meeting last Monday on how best to spend the money being created by Cornovii projects within Shropshire Council.

Section 106 money is provided by developers for community or infrastructure benefits.

This working group would be tasked with the responsibility of exploring viable projects as well as the costings and then would be asked to bring them back to full council.

OTHER NEWS:

Mayor Graham Hutchinson, chairing the meeting, moved to remind councillors that the money is held by Shropshire Council, as with the Community Infrastructure Levy, while town clerk Joanne Butterworth said there was a criteria for the use of the funding.

Miss Butterworth added that there is an as yet-to-be confirmed expiry date for using the money, but mentioned March 2026.

A group will be put together in the coming weeks and will initially report to the council’s planning committee which will take projects to full council.
