THE OWNER of a popular pub near the Wrexham-Shropshire border has issued an update on its future after it closed its doors.

The Bridge Inn, Chirk, announced on Monday morning (September 2) that it has sadly closed.

A spokesperson for the pub said: "We have closed the pub with a heavy heart as we loved the pub and customers. But we can’t take the pub to the next level. We hand the keys over today (Monday)."

However, they added that the owner of the pub, Admiral Taverns, was in the process of interviewing people to take over the running of the pub - which is known locally as The Trap.

And Admiral Taverns, which owns over 1,600 pubs across the UK, has confirmed that a new licensee is already in place.

A spokesperson for the company said: "Our new licensee took over the pub today (Monday) and is working hard to reopen it as soon as possible.

"We will update on our plans in due course.”
