Oswestry marathon runner Amy Hughes will be returning to the town as part of her of her latest epic challenge.
Amy is taking on a scarcely believable 53 ultra marathons which go on for 53km every day for 53 days – marking 10 years since she took on her most famous challenge.
“10 years ago this year I ran 53 marathons in 53 consecutive days,” said Amy “As it was the 10 year anniversary I had to do something to celebrate. So I thought why not do 53 ultras in 53 days?”
Amy, who is 41 days into her challenge has been running circuits across the country which has been a huge mental and physical challenge.
“I’m not bad at the moment, every day is a bit different to be honest,” said Amy.
“One day you’ll be having a really good day and the next day not so much.

“It is a mental challenge more than anything. Being on your feet for that length of time. Every day I think ‘right I think I am ready for a day off’ and then thinking I have to get up and run that far. On average I am running six and half hours a day.
“I try and break it down in my brain like a shift, stop for a lunch break and go.”
As Amy has run in various spots such as London, Liverpool, Chester and Edinburgh and has had people coming to back her the entire way.
“People have come to join me as and when,” said Amy. “Some people stay for the whole duration, most people dip in and do a 5k and a 10k.
“I am trying to do loops and make it accessible to people can do one loop or two or however many they want.”
One famous face she did bump into was comedian Eddie Izzard, famous for their own marathon exploits.
“That was just by chance,” said Amy. “I tagged him in my story and we thought who could we get to share. I went running and he literally just biked past.
“Had a chat, did a video. It was just pure coincidence, it was crazy.”
Amy is running for the charity Bigmoose, who are aim to help with the mental health crisis by providing therapy in a timely manner for those who need it.
“They respond to people in 24 hours of getting in touch and maybe get them into therapy in a week,” added Amy. “They are based in Cardiff but are available to everyone.
Amy will be returning to Oswestry tomorrow (September 3) in the penultimate leg of the journey before finishing in Manchester.
“I am going to be starting in Red square and the loops will be 5 or 10k. 8am every morning, said Amy.
“Once I am in full flow in Oswestry I think that’ll be like ‘right I’m on the home run’.
“I am really excited. Someone messaged me and said ‘this time in two weeks you get to have a lie in’.”
