The owners of a multi award winning Oswestry pub are still “pinching themselves” after CAMRA recognition, as their trophies were handed over.

The owners of the Bailey Head in Oswestry have been celebrating after receiving their trophies from CAMRA being named the best pub in the West Midlands and amongst the best in the UK.

The pub co-owned owned married couple Duncan Borrowman and Grace Goodlad has racked up the accolades this year before being named the CAMRA West Midlands Regional Pub of the Year and West Midlands Regional Cider Pub of the Year.

"We are still pinching ourselves,” said Duncan.

“You don't enter for CAMRA awards, they are awarded based on not only the quality of the beer but also the knowledge of our staff, the atmosphere and cleanliness.

"To have come out top of 3,300 pubs in the West Midlands is beyond our wildest dreams.

“We must be doing something right."

The pub was praised by CAMRA Judeges as “a must-visit for beer lovers”.

They added: “The pub has one of the largest beer ranges of any in Shropshire, claiming to have sold more than 3,400 different draught beers since opening in March 2016.

“Six constantly changing cask beers, always including one dark beer, are supplemented by 11 other draught beers, plus four ciders and a perry.

“The Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) named the pub the UK’s Best Rural Independent Craft Beer Pub or Bar in 2020 and has been a finalist many times since.”

The pub has the distinction of being the first pub to win not only the regional West Midlands award but also the Cider pub of the year in the same year.
