The Marches School have said they are “really happy” with this year’s GCSE results.
There was joy and in some cases relief at the GCSE results at the Marches School today (August 22), with the school celebrating an improvement in results despite a dip nationally.
Staff at the school were very happy with the results for this year group who have been the most affected by the disruption caused by the pandemic in 2020.
“It's a lovely day," said Headteacher Sally Wilmot. "We're really happy with the results.
"The results are up from last year. Nationally there is actually a bit of a dip so we're really pleased.
"I can't believe how quick time has gone but now they're in Year 11 the pandemic still seems like yesterday sometimes.
"They've had a bit of a journey through secondary school and we're so proud of them. We're really pleased by what they've achieved today."

One pupil who was especially happy was Katie Garstang who achieved four grade 9s (one with distinction), one 9-8 grade as well as a grade 8 and a grade 7.
"I did really well. I can't say much more - I am just really happy,” said Katie.
"Some of them have been a nice surprise. I did better than I expected in maths and definitely in Spanish.
"I got a 9 in art, I really love art. I'm glad it's over I was so nervous."
Her parents were very proud of her achievement, with her dad staying up just to hear the results after being awake from 10.30 yesterday morning after working a night shift.
Her mum, Amanda, said: “She’s worked so hard. I think the grades she has got show all that and how she has achieved all she has set out to do.”
Other students were also celebrating their results such as Isla Perry.
"My results were very good, I'm really pleased - and relieved,” said Isla.
"I got a 7 in most things but a 9 in geography and photography.
"I'm going on to study at the sixth form to study geography, photography and psychology."
Fellow pupils, Harrison Sumner and Ben Woodacre were also over the moon with their results.
"I am overall very happy with what I got,” said Harrison. “I got 8s and 7s in what I really wanted to get them in and in everything else I got the 6s I wanted.
"I'm going into sixth form here to study maths, computer science, drama and geography."
Ben added: "I got 6, 7s and 8s today - I am overwhelming happy with it.
“It's gone just as I expected. I'm also doing sixth form here.
"I'm doing maths, computer science, biology and an AS in business."
