INDEPENDENT schools in north Shropshire are celebrating after securing high pass rates in the 2024 A-Levels.

Ellesmere  College has achieved a 96 per cent pass rate at A-Level with Whitchurch’s Prue Noss, from Whitchurch, who secured distinction*/distinction/distinction in her diploma and will be following a Manchester City Community Football Coaching course at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Alex Phillips, from Whitchurch, is Head Boy at the College and he secured an A* and two B grades and to ensure a place at Bath University to read Politics and International Studies.

Olivia Philbin, from Oswestry, secured the A grade she needed to read Music at Trinity Laban Conservatoire having dedicated significant time to her various choir and concert performances alongside many of our other extremely successful pupils.

Ewan Tulloch, from Llanymynech, secured two A* and an A grade at A-level and also a Merit in the English Speaking Board examination and will be taking a gap year before he resumes his studies.

Vicky Pritt-Roberts, acting head at the school, said they were delighted with the results.

She said: “It is a pleasure to see how well pupils have achieved and they are commended for their positive approach to the examination experience.

“These results are a testament to their hard work and determination, to the diligence of their teachers and the constant support of parents.

“These pleasing A-Level results follow the excellent results in July for IB Diploma and BTEC.

“The breadth of courses and destinations that our students move onto is a particular point to celebrate as an outworking of being a school with a global focus and a commitment to the high-performance learning (HPL) philosophy.”

Another local private school, Moreton Hall on the edge of Oswestry, is also celebrating what it calls a "fantastic year" of A-Level results.

Around 91 per cent of students will now be packing their bags for their first choice of university, many of them to the most competitive Russell Group institutions, with 45 per cent of grades either A*s or As.
