A WOMAN was left seriously injured in a crash that closed the Oswestry A5 on Monday afternoon, with two children also assessed.

A two-car collision closed the Gobowen A5 roundabout plus nearby roads into the village and Oswestry at around 12.20pm, but it has now since reopened.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed that one ambulance was sent to the scene and a woman was taken to hospital with a 'potentially serious injury'.

They said: "We were called to reports of a two-car RTC on the A5 in Gobowen, Oswestry at 11.16am today.

"One ambulance attended.

"Three occupants from one car were assessed.

"A woman sustained a potentially serious injury and was conveyed to hospital for further checks.

"Two children were also assessed but didn’t require hospital treatment."

The Gobowen roundabout, on the A5 near Oswestry, was closed for more than an hour in both directions after a two-car crash.

This led to delays towards Wrexham and Chester, with some impact on traffic travelling towards Shrewsbury, Welshpool and South Wales.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police confirmed it was called to the scene.

They said: “We were called to a two-vehicle collision on the A5, Thomas Penson Road in Gobowen, Shropshire at around 12.20pm on Monday, August 5.

“No serious injuries were reported, and no arrests were made.”
