A FERAL cat who had been seen with severe injuries in Ellesmere has had to be put to sleep, the RSPCA has confirmed.
The plight of the black and white cat was highlighted through an animal cruelty Facebook group and was believed to be roaming a farm in Ellesmere.
The RSPCA has confirmed that its staff made efforts to find and rescue the feral cat but a member of the public was able to take the cat to a vet who confirmed that it was in too much pain and had to be put down.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: “We are grateful to those who reported this incident to us and we are aware the cat wasn’t owned but was living feral in this area.
“We were hoping to trap the timid cat to take it to a vet and we went to the location yesterday (Wednesday, July 31) intending to do this.

“However, we have since found out that a member of the public was able to catch the cat and kindly took it for urgent veterinary treatment.
“Sadly the vet decided the feline was in such poor health the kindest thing to do was to put the cat to sleep to end its suffering.
“When an animal is in need, the quicker they get help the better.
“There may be times when you can help get a sick, injured, abandoned or trapped animal quickly by taking them directly to a vet, rehabilitation centre or rescue centre.
“There’s helpful advice on the RSPCA website about how to get help for animals as quickly as possible.
