The Holroyd Community Theatre has begun screening National Theatre productions, backed by Oswestry's popular community cinema, KinoKulture.

Following KinoKulture's closure in April, the Holroyd, in conjunction with cinema veterans Ruth Carter and Ian Garland, has set the stage for film lovers to enjoy National Theatre productions.

The screenings kicked off this month with a focus on NYE, a tale of Nye Bevan, the founder of the National Health Service (NHS).

The community theatre's approach incorporates a unique cinematic element, providing residents the opportunity to relish London’s National Theatre performances in their area.

Accommodating an audience of up to 200, The Holroyd offers a variety of comfortable seating options including sofas, bucket chairs, and traditional theatre seats.

Theatre-goer Sam Wyse was at the first screening and shared his experience, saying: "The production of NYE at The Holroyd was superb, the whole experience was well-thought-out and so inviting, with the option to watch the production from the comfort of sofas, bucket chairs or the theatre’s comfortable seats.

"I have loved going to KinoKulture over the years and was devastated when I heard that it was closing.

"It is really brilliant that we now have a new venue for the National Theatre screenings at The Holroyd, especially within such a lovely setting with free parking."

National Theatre’s production recordings and live streams have made live theatre more accessible to many people.

By placing cameras closer to capture the intricate details, viewers enjoy a front-row experience.

Michael Jenkins, the creative director of The Holroyd Community Theatre, said: "The National’s productions are always superb, however, with increased travel and ticket prices, visiting London is not always affordable for many.

"With the screenings, we are able to offer our community a theatrical experience for a fraction of the price."

Mr Garland and Ms Carter from KinoKulture were equally thrilled about the venture.

They state: "We are so excited and pleased that National Theatre Live broadcasts have returned to Oswestry.

"We always knew that The Holroyd Community Theatre would be the perfect venue for these live cinema events."

The next screening will be of Jodie Comer’s one-woman production of Prima Facie on Friday 4 October.

Tickets are now available online at The Holroyd's official website www.theholroyd.com or by calling 01691 776069.
