ONE of Oswestry’s most popular hotels is celebrating after it joined an exclusive club across the UK to be given the AA Gold five-star award.

The Wynnstay Hotel, in Church Street, has scooped the accolade and is now just only one of 24 in the UK to be awarded it.

Chris Birdsell-Jones, general manager at the Wynnstay Hotel – which is owned by the Coaching Inn Group – said he and his staff were delighted to be given the award.

He added that the accolade was awarded to hotels and inns offering excellent levels of quality throughout as well as outstanding levels of hospitality and service.

“This is certainly a well-deserved pat on the back for all the hard work, enthusiasm and can-do attitude of my entire team,” he said.

The Wynnstay was given a £1 million upgrade and extensive refit following its acquisition by the multi- award-winning Coaching Inn Group back in spring 2022.

Adam Charity, chief operating officer of the group which now operates 35 hotels and inns in market towns across the country, admitted his delight.

He said this coveted award was ‘very much in line with the group’s whole ethos of offering hospitality from the heart’ both for guests and regular customers in all the many communities it served.

“My congratulations to all who have contributed to us winning this accolade,” he added.
