FIREFIGHTERS in Oswestry were called out to a ‘mystery’ van on fire on Monday afternoon, as part of a ‘good intention’ false alarm.

One crew of Shropshire Fire and Rescue (SFRS) firefighters from Oswestry were sent to the Queen’s Head turning in West Felton at around 1.50pm on Monday.

There were reports of a van emitting smoke in a layby on the A5; however, when firefighters arrived the van could not be seen.

A SFRS spokesman said: “Crews completed a thorough investigation of the area and also surrounding areas with no vehicle found.

“This incident was a false alarm with good intent.”

A stop message was sent to SFRS control around 30 minutes later to confirm that no further help was required.
