OSWESTRY’S tourist board is set to make a move across the Bailey Head to a new home at the town’s Indoor Market Hall.

Oswestry Borderland Tourism (OBT), Oswestry’s long standing tourism group has announced that it will be relocating their Tourist Information Centre from Castle View, next to the library in Arthur Street.

But she added that the chance to move into a popular and well-used building has come as a boost to staff there.

She said: “This came as quite a shock.

“We are disappointed to have to move again after only four years and have been looking at various new locations.

“We heard about a vacant unit in the indoor market and have agreed the tenancy with Oswestry Town Council.

“This will be a great location for us to encourage even more visitors to the Tourist Information Centre and, we hope, boost numbers of people visiting the indoor market.

“Our numbers have been steadily growing with a 25 per cent increase in 2023 to more than 5,000 visitors.

“These numbers really showcase how face to face visitor information is still important to people. ‘

Karen Pringle, senior tourism officer with OBT, went on to say that the new location was ideal as the centre is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, which are also market days, meaning people will be able to visit what they have to offer.

She said: “We are looking forward to being part of Oswestry’s historic market and to add to the retail offer there with exclusive gifts and Oswestry souvenirs.

“Tourist Information Centres are not just for visitors.
