SURGERIES in Oswestry have said they have been affected by the global IT outage impacting on Microsoft systems

Caxton Surgery, in Oswald Road, has taken to its social media to confirm to patients that its booking system has been affected by the IT disaster.

A spokesman for the surgery said that anyone looking to book a routine appointment is being asked to delay until next week but ring for an urgent appointment.

They said: “We are sorry but due to the worldwide IT outage we are unable to access our computer systems currently.

“This has affected every practice in the country so we are sorry but if you are ringing with a routine query or booking then we would ask you to ring next week or submit an econsultation via our website.

“For urgent problems that you feel need to be seen today you can call and we will take the details and we will call you back once the problem is resolved, if you have an appointment booked you can still attend today and we will do the best we can when you are here.”

A notice placed on the website of Plas Ffynnon Medical Centre has confirmed it too is affected.

It said: “Plas Ffynnon Medical Centre and all GP surgeries in Shropshire (and beyond) are currently affected by an ongoing global IT outage.

“We have very limited access to our IT systems, including patient records. We are also unable to book any appointments are the current time.

“We will update this message as soon as the situation has been resolved.”

Cambrian Medical Centre, in Thomas Savin Road, says it has also experienced an outage.

A spokesman said: “There is currently a national IT issue this morning which is affecting our clinical systems.

“Until this matter is sorted, please only contact us if you feel your matter is urgent.

“Thank you for your understanding.”

Ellesmere's Churchmere Group says it is unable to dispense medication other than to those who have received a confirmation. 

Chirk Medical Centre has said it is now back open as normal after earlier difficulties. In a post on social media the practice said: "Our medical system is now back up, we are now open as normal."

Outages have also been affecting Rowlands Pharmacies. Across the border in Welshpool their branch told customers "we are experiencing computer issues".

They added: "This will affect our work today, please be patient with staff while this issue is dealt with.

"Be aware this may also affect our tills and card payments."
