SPORTING pupils at an Oswestry primary school are celebrating an action-packed year of achievement.
Pupils at Woodside School, in Gittin Street, competed successfully across a number of sports, including cross-country running, football and cricket.
Charlotte Rowlands and Kelly Jones, PE leaders at Woodside, paid tribute to the school pupils who worked hard for their achievements.

“It has been lovely to see so many children participating in so many events this year and enjoying their team and individual successes,” they said.
“When competing, the children have shown determination and resilience and these are important values at Woodside Primary School.’”
The cross-country team were very excited to come first in the local primary competition held at The Marches.
The event took place over four meets with the Years 3/4 boys, 3/4 girls and 5/6 boys teams coming in first place with the Year 5/6 girls coming in second place.
There were also individual successes and medals received by many children in all year groups.
The Year 5/6 athletics team participated in three rounds of competitions and qualified for the next round, held at Ellesmere College, against schools from across north Shropshire, with a second place finish.
The Key Stage One football team also came second in a football tournament at Gobowen while Key Stage Two girls also had sporting success this year!
They added: “We took a team of girls from across Years 5 and 6 to Oswestry Cricket Club to take part in their first competition.
“We were so impressed with the skills that the girls displayed, and they were over the moon to finish in second place.
Finally, our Key Stage Two athletics team put on a brilliant display at Queensway.
“The competition consisted of a mixture of track and field events, including throwing, long jump, vertical jump, sprints, and long-distance runs.
“The team excelled in every area of the competition, coming away as the champions for the third year running.

“A special mention must go to our Year 5 children who stepped up into the Year 6 races too.”
Mike O’Reilly, PE coach at Woodside, said: “One of our core values at Woodside is aspiration and the children certainly demonstrated this during the competition.
“I am so proud of all of our children – they are a pleasure to take out to competitions.”
