A “welcoming and friendly school” near Oswestry is celebrating after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.

Kinnerley CE Primary School was praised by inspectors for its “high quality” curriculum and the “respectful and polite” behaviour of its pupils.

In their report inspectors said: “Pupils are happy and feel safe in this welcoming and friendly school. Pupils play harmoniously at playtimes and older pupils show care to the younger children.

“They know that there are many trusted adults in the school who look out for them and this helps them to feel safe. Pupils say that discrimination is not tolerated because there are ‘no outsiders’ in the school. Pupils welcome pupils with different backgrounds and beliefs.

“Parents, pupils and staff are proud of the school. One parent echoed the views of many others saying, ‘I could honestly not wish for a better school for my children. There is a family feel about the school and all staff really care about each and every child.’”

This follows a successful inspection by SIAMs, the inspectorate for Church of England Schools,  which said: “'Kinnerley is a small school with big ambitions. Everyone is welcome.”

Ofsted inspectors were also in praise of the standard of teaching and said: “The school’s curriculum is of high quality. Leaders have worked hard to identify the knowledge and skills that pupils need and sequenced it effectively for mixed-age classes.

“Children in the early years flourish in a caring environment, where they develop strong and nurturing relationships. Learning is well planned and meets the needs of the children of different ages, including the two-year-olds. Children know the routines of the school day and learn to behave well.”

Headteacher Elizabeth Madin was delighted with the report and said: “As with many schools, our village school has seen many changes over the last few years and our dedicated staff have worked incredibly hard to make it the very best it can be for our pupils and families in and around the surrounding community.

“It is our school community that makes us truly special - our children, the parents, the staff, Governors and community supporters. We are extremely proud of our school and we are proud to have been rated GOOD in all areas and are looking forward to continuing to build on our many strengths.”
