AN OSWESTRY business has praised pupils from a Powys school for stepping up and taking charge of their leavers prom for nearly 100 guests.
The five students from Ysgol Llanfyllin held their leavers prom at Carriages, in Cambrian Works in Gobowen Road, last Thursday (June 20) having started organising it in December 2023.
Bronte Smith, media marketing at the restaurant, said the five girls – Manon, Isla, Awel, Soffia and Mared – took control of all aspects of the evening, with some guidance, and should be praise for their efforts.

She said: “The girls decided to take on the responsibility of organising their school leavers prom in December 2023.
“After reaching out with their initial interest and ideas, Manon, Isla and Awel organised a meeting with me to discuss their plan.
“The girls arrived at their meeting prepped with budget, cost breakdown and vision.
“They decided on a two-course meal and a small handful of decorations including a red carpet, room dress, balloon arch and DJ.
“The Carriages, in awe of the tenacity of these girls decided to provide further decorations free of charge to ensure the girls had everything they required despite a constrained budget.
“Over the next few months, the girls organised their fellow students, selling tickets, receiving food choices, dietary restrictions and liaising with Carriages for the final preparation.
“On Thursday, June 20, 98 Year 11 students arrived at The Carriages, Oswestry for their school leavers prom.
“Family members, friends and the community joined to watch each student arrive before they headed inside for the evening.”
Bronte added that a menu of tender chicken breast in a gravy paired with crispy roasted potatoes and roasted vegetables and chocolate fudge cake with ice cream was served.
She added: “The students also presented each other with awards including funniest student, biggest flirt and more.
“Throughout the evening students made use of the Carriages flower wall with props for photo opportunities, the red carpet for group photos and after their meal danced on the dance floor.

“The evening was a huge success and Carriages wanted to give credit to the students in attendance who not only showed up in style but displayed exemplary behaviour throughout the evening.
“It was great to be a part of this evening and we are sure there are many proud parents, teachers and community members.
“A huge well done to Manon, Isla, Awel, Soffia and Mared. An absolute credit to their school and fellow classmates, for taking on the sole responsibility of the event.”
