A RETAIL worker in Oswestry stepping down after 24 years of serving people in the town has wished her customers ‘love, health, health and happiness’.

Georgina Broad, 79, is saying farewell to her role as a cashier at Sainsbury’s in Black Gate Street on Saturday, July 6.

But she is calling it a day after more than two decades and admitted she felt a ‘great privilege’ to spend so many years with customers whose lives she grew to know so well, and her colleagues too.

“I’ve decided at the age of 79 that the time has come to retire and I will be leaving on Saturday, July 6, after working as a cashier for Sainsburys for 24 years,” said Georgina.

“I would like to say a big thank you to my customers, past and present, for helping to make my job enjoyable.

“Exchanging recipes, gardening tips, sharing happy and sad times and putting the world to rights in general.

“I feel privileged that you felt you could share your life's experiences with me.

“Some of you have married or bought your first house, others have had their first baby or grandchild, some have divorced or sadly been made a widow or widower.

“I have known some of my customer's children since they were babies who are now having babies of their own, which is amazing.

A former office worker, Georgina had spent time previously working at the Lord Moreton Hotel near Gledrid while living in Ceiriog Valley before moving to Rhiwlas, outside Oswestry.

Having joined the company as a ‘stop-gap for a few weeks that last 24 years’, Georgina said she is looking forward to more time in her beloved garden.
