THE owner of the new venture replacing Oswestry’s catalogue shop says they are excited to be opening on Saturday.
Chris Mooney is the owner of Surplus Station which will officially open its doors on Saturday, June 29 in Willow Street, where the former Catalogue Surplus Centre had traded until earlier this year.
And he said the biggest satisfaction was being able to employ those who worked in the store in its previous guise and is looking forward to playing a role in the Oswestry business community.

“We open on Saturday,” he said.
“We’re ready to go – we’re a bit excited and we’ve done all that we’ve can to make opening on Saturday a success with everyone’s expectations.
“The staff are raring to go – we’ve managed to keep staff who were here previously but we have also had to slim the business down too.
“But all the staff we have in store are from the previous company and we haven’t taken on any more until we really get up and running,
“We will benefit from having the staff who know what to do and also taking over a business that didn’t close because of a lack of trading.
“We’re happier with the fact that we’re managing to keep people employed and keep the shop here as it’s a big part of the community in Oswestry.
“It’s about keeping the town going as there are many places closing down.”
Chris confirmed that the new store will have a manager and admitted that and the team that helped stock the shop will be taking a small rest.
He added: “We’ve been going, more or less, 24/7 for the last three weeks.
“We’ve a 40-foot wagon delivering here for three days and it has caused a lot of excitement.
“But the feedback we’ve had is nothing but positive and while it was here, our staff did make alternative arrangements for people who needed to park while we used it as a loading bay.

“We’ve tried to keep everyone onside as much as we can.
“On Saturday, there might be a few drinks on entry and we open at 10am and we hope there is a prize giveaway too.
“But mainly we’re asking people to come along and shop!”
