An Oswestry based arts group are set to take to the stage in the area before heading up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

The group, Spike Rose Productions, will be performing their show ‘The Hatter’s Requiem’, which is a unique take on the Alice in Wonderland tale.

The Hatter leaves Wonderland in a daring quest for his true love Alice.

His journey brings him face-to-face with a world stranger than his own, where he makes startling discoveries and risks losing part of himself.

With an all-female cast primed for the show's road tour, the arts group is excited about the upcoming performances.

Francesca Fox, who plays the Mad Hatter, said: "I can’t wait to take this show to Edinburgh, because we’ve all worked so hard.

"But I’m even more excited to be able to perform in Oswestry, as it’s sort of like playing on our home ground!"

The group is putting on two preview performances for at the Hermon Arts Chapel on July 16 and 17, where audiences will be treated to a double bill.

The second play, ‘Strange Meetings’, is a one-act production all about the war experiences of local war hero and poet Wilfred Owen.

Shaun Higgins, the writer of ‘The Hatter’s Requiem’, said: "The last play we took to Edinburgh did very well and raised money for mental health charities, and this year we’re taking a very different show which promises to be a lot of fun.

"These two nights at the Hermon Chapel Arts Centre are our ‘preview’ performances, a sneak peek of what we’re bringing to the theatrical table."

Tickets for the July 16 and 17 shows, which include a raffle and licensed bar, are available at www.hermon-arts.org.uk.
