Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey said the proposed Oswestry-Gobowen rail line would have a ‘champion’ if Helen Morgan was re-elected.
The comments came as Mr Davey visited North Shropshire earlier today to throw his support behind Liberal Democrat candidate Helen Morgan who has held the seat since her by-election victory in 2021.
When asked whether he would be in favour of keeping the funding for projects such as the Gobowen line, Mr Davey said: “We would need to look at it in detail we want to make sure that places like North Shropshire that have had a raw deal for far too long to get the support for the public transport that they need.

“They have got a champion in Helen Morgan so they can be assured that they will get a voice in Parliament for what they need.
“With many of these issues she has my full support. When you have a champion like Helen who is so skilful, so hard working you tend to find the party gets behind them.”
The funding for the line came from funding that was going to be used for the now scrapped HS2 project.

The train line WILL be reopened.
This is fantastic news and will bring a big boost to the area.
A massive well done to everyone involved - including those who came to Parliament last month to make the case at my roundtable event 👏👏👏 pic.twitter.com/1JZhpcMnew
When the news was announced Ms Morgan said: “It's also going to have a stop in Park Hall so we will get everybody there connected to the route as well.
"That's amazing news, congratulations to the team who pulled that bid together and worked so hard to bring it to fruition, and I am really proud to have supported them and helped them lobby to bring this great new train line to Oswestry and Gobowen."
