SHROPSHIRE Council has been blasted for its ‘shoddy’ repair work to potholes near a nursing home outside Oswestry.

The sizable pothole close to Hengoed Park Nursing Home at Trewern Hall, in Gobowen, was reported to Shropshire Council by concerned resident Maxine Amos.

She said the original pothole, in Rad Road – off the A5/A483 – was bad enough to be reported because of the dangers it posed to passing vehicles.

However, she said she was left ‘open-mouthed’ when she saw the state of the ‘repair carried out by Shropshire Council which Maxine says is already starting to break up.

This, according to Maxine, is a ‘waste of taxpayer’s money’ and was left ‘very disappointed’ by the work on the road, which will need more repairs.

She said: “I recently reported to Shropshire Council a very large and dangerous pothole situated in Hengoed, very close to the entrance of Hengoed Park nursing home.

“I am shocked to see the state of the "repair" they have carried out.

“They are wasting taxpayers' money doing such shoddy and amateurish work which is still a hazard and will need attention again within weeks.

“Can Shropshire council justify the standard of work carried out by their highway technicians ? 

“I expected the repair to be temporary for safety, but a shoddy job that only lasts a few days is a complete waste of tax payers’ money and frankly disgraceful.

“This is just one of the thousands of examples of useless temporary repairs county-wide, which adds up to a huge amount of wasted taxpayers' money.”

A spokesman for Shropshire Council confirmed that the work was a temporary repair and that there are plans in place to carry out more permanent work later in the year.

They said: “This was an emergency pothole repair carried out by one of the council’s highways technicians, to make it safe and remove the immediate danger to road users.
