THE friends of Chirk Station are gearing up for a busy summer after receiving a donation towards its work.
The group, which helps maintain the upkeep of the railway station, in Station Road, was given a donation from the Spar store in Church Street last week.
A spokesman for the group said it was gratefully received by the Friends.
They said: “The donation was £200 and came from the Spar Foundation
“We are very pleased for their continued support of our horticulture and environment improvements to our railway station in Chirk.”
The spokesman said members of the team were invited to the store to receive the money.
They added that spring planting around the station is already underway ahead
They added: “Our group is planting the shrubs and a few more plants we purchased from their Foundation.
“Last week, some of our committee members went along to a Transport for Wales Conference held in the Shropshire Wildlife Centre in Shrewsbury.
“Just a short presentation from their local staff members but clearly more to come in the near future.
“We think we just might carry on our work as we have done for 20 years.
“Starting of course with our birthday tea in Caffi Wylfa.”
