TRIBUTES have been paid on social media to a stalwart of Oswestry who died last week.

Mo Battams, founder of M Battams Butchers in Beatrice Street, passed away on Wednesday, February 14 after a long career.

His family announced the news on Facebook, leading to an outpouring of love for the hugely-popular butcher.

They said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Mo, founder of M Battams Butchers who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14.

“He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, staff and customers. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.”

The post led to tributes underneath from customers in the town that highlighted how popular he was and he left ‘a great legacy’.

Mair Ruscoe said: “So sorry to hear of your loss.

“He has left a legacy of wonderful memories, which will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“Thinking of you all.”

Marg Stokes added: “Aw so sorry to read this, he was a lovely man, thinking of all the family.”

Gary Powell said: “So sad to hear this. My mother always used your shop for all her married life as did I when I lived in the area.

“Mo will be very sadly missed and my thoughts are with you all at this sad time.”
