COUNCILS and public officials in north Shropshire have wished the King good health in his treatment for cancer.

King Charles III will begin treatment as an outpatient in London, starting straight away, after Buckingham Palace announced that he has been diagnosed with an as yet unconfirmed form of cancer.

He has returned from his Norfolk-based Sandringham to Buckingham Palace to begin his treatment.

Councillor Olly Rose, mayor of Oswestry, passed on the well wishes of the town to His Majesty as he prepares for treatment.

She said: “On behalf of Oswestry Town Council, I would like to wish King Charles a speedy recovery from his newly-announced illness, and our warmest wishes go out to his family at this time.

“I'm sure my concern is shared by Oswestry residents and that we all hope that he will  soon be back in good health.”

Ellesmere Town Council, on behalf of the community, also wish the King their best.

“'Council were shocked to hear the news of the King's diagnosis of cancer, but heartened that his doctors have discovered the illness at an early stage.

“We wish the King and his doctors with his treatment.

“God Save the King!”

Whitchurch Town Council also wished His Majesty the best in his bid to recover from the diagnosis.

A spokesman said: “King Charles remains in our thoughts and prayers as we receive news of this challenge to his health.

“We share the concerns of the rest of the country and Commonwealth, coming so soon after his Accession and Coronation.

“We hope that successful treatment results in a full recovery and his return to full public life as soon as possible.”

North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan also sent her best wishes to His Majesty on behalf of all her constituents, saying that King Charles had 'an affinity' with rural life.

She said: "King Charles has a deep care for rural communities like ours up and down the country.

"I am sure that I speak for all my constituents when I say that we wish him successful treatment and a speedy recovery.”

Cllr Geoff Soul, Mayor of Wem, also wished the King well for his treatment on behalf of the town.

He said: “The town council is very  sorry to hear of the King’s recent cancer diagnosis and would like to pass on our best wishes to King Charles III for his forthcoming treatment and wish him a speedy recovery.”
