DRAMATIC drone footage has revealed how land in north Shropshire, close to Oswestry, is being used to protect Shrewsbury from further flooding.
The Environment Agency took to its social media channels to show off drone footage over Melverley, near Oswestry, late on Thursday.

It showed the level of flooding in what it called its ‘natural flood storage basin’ on farmland wclose to where the Rivers Severn and Vyrnwy meet.

The drone footage showed the aftermath of Storm Jocelyn, which following on the heels of Storm Ish, last week.
The Agency said: “While Storm Jocelyn swept across the Midlands this week, our natural flood storage basin in Melverley, Shropshire was filling up in order to prevent water flowing downstream into Shrewsbury.”
The village, as well as Maesbrook, Crew Green and others, are regularly flooded when heavy rains arrive with water building from the Powys hills into the rivers.
