HUNDREDS of people braved the heavy rains in Oswestry to pay their respect to the town’s war dead on Remembrance Sunday.
Dignitaries including town mayor Councillor Olly Rose, North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan and Shropshire deputy Lord Lieutenant Veronica Lillis, among others, attended the memorial gates at Cae Glas Park for a ceremony on Sunday, November 12.
They were joined by hundreds of veterans from Oswestry and nearby villages – from across all armed forces – as well as hundreds of cadets and schoolchildren.
The town’s parade began at the Bailey Head, outside the Guildhall, making its way through Bailey Street and Church Street before arriving at the park gates for a two-minute period of remembrance and silence.
A long bugler played The Last Post in the rain while, as is tradition, the Porthywaen Silver Band led the parade which then returned to the Bailey Head before it was formally dismissed.
A town council spokesman said: “A beautiful service and as always, a great turn-out.
“Oswestry remembers.”
